SPONSORSHIP FOR 20 GNM STUDENTS OF SCHOOL OF NURSING, ITANAGAR
Proposal for Financial Support for Nursing Education
Submitted by: Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar
1. Introduction:
About Ramakrishna Order:
The Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission recently celebrated 125 years of dedicated service to humanity, enriching lives through both spiritual and social welfare initiatives. Headquartered at Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal, this twin organization continues its unwavering commitment to uplifting society.
As of January 1, 2025, the organization has 287 branch centers worldwide, including 219 in India and 68 across 24 other countries. Through its extensive network, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission continues to carry forward its legacy of selfless service, promoting education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid while fostering spiritual growth and universal values.
The Ramakrishna Mission initiated its educational services in Arunachal Pradesh (then NEFA) in 1966, becoming the first philanthropic and monastic organization to extend its reach to this remote region. Responding to requests from local public leaders, the state government, and the personal appeal of Smt. Indira Gandhi, the Mission took on the responsibility of improving education in the state.
Recognizing the urgent need for quality healthcare, the Lt. Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Sri K. A. A. Raja, along with local leaders, urged the Mission to extend its services to the medical sector. In response, the Ramakrishna Mission authorities took the initiative to establish a hospital in Itanagar, aiming to provide accessible and high-quality healthcare to the people of the state.
Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar: The Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, was established on December 28, 1977, when Lt. Governor Sri K.A.A. Raja laid its foundation stone. It was officially inaugurated on October 19, 1979, by Srimat Swami Vireshwaranandaji Maharaj, President of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Over the past four and a half decades, the hospital has expanded significantly, evolving into a leading healthcare institution dedicated to quality medical services and community well-being.
In 1985, the School of Nursing was established within the hospital premises, becoming the first of its kind in Arunachal Pradesh to train tribal and non-tribal girls in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM). The school aims to empower young women through quality nursing education, contributing significantly to the healthcare sector.
2. Objective
The demand for quality nursing education has been rising significantly in Arunachal Pradesh. However, many talented students from poor and marginalized backgrounds cannot afford the increasing cost of the course. As a charitable institution, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital faces challenges in funding the nursing school while maintaining its high-standard medical services.
We humbly request financial support to sponsor 1/3rd of our students (20 students per year) to continue providing quality nursing education to deserving candidates. This assistance will:
- Enable financially weak but meritorious students to complete their nursing education.
- Strengthen the healthcare workforce in Arunachal Pradesh by training well-qualified nurses.
- Empower young women with employment opportunities and self-sufficiency.
3. Expected Outcome
With financial aid, these 20 students per year will receive a life-changing opportunity, allowing them to:
- Gain quality nursing education at a reputable institution.
- Serve in hospitals and rural health centres to uplift healthcare standards in the state.
- Break the cycle of poverty by becoming financially independent.
- Encourage other young women to pursue professional careers.
4. Conclusion
This initiative aligns with the national agenda of strengthening healthcare services, particularly in underserved regions like Arunachal Pradesh. Supporting the School of Nursing at Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, will ensure that more trained nurses can contribute to society while uplifting their own families and communities.
We sincerely request your generous support in helping us sustain and expand this noble initiative. Your contribution will directly impact the lives of these young women and, in turn, improve the healthcare services in the state.
We look forward to your support and the possibility of collaborating for a healthier and empowered Arunachal Pradesh.
We would humbly request benevolent Institutions, compassionate Individuals and devotees of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission to come forward and extend helping hands to Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar to the people of Arunachal Pradesh. May Sri Ramakrishna Bless you and yours.
Yours in the service of the Nation.
