1. Introduction:
About Ramakrishna Order:
The Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission recently celebrated 125 years of dedicated service to humanity, enriching lives through both spiritual and social welfare initiatives. Headquartered at Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal, this twin organization continues its unwavering commitment to uplifting society through the world.
As of January 1, 2025, the organization has 287 branch centers worldwide, including 219 in India and 68 across 24 other countries. Through its extensive network, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission continues to carry forward its legacy of selfless service, promoting education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid while fostering spiritual growth and universal values.
The Ramakrishna Missioninitiated itseducational services in Arunachal Pradesh (then NEFA) in 1966, becoming thefirst philanthropic and monastic organization to extend its reach to this remote region. Responding to requests from local public leaders, the state government, and the personal appeal of Smt. Indira Gandhi, the Mission took on the responsibility of improving education in the state.
Recognizing theurgent need for quality healthcare, the Lt. Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Sri K. A. A. Raja, along with local leaders, urged the Mission to extend its services to themedical sector. In response, the Ramakrishna Mission authorities took the initiative to establish a hospital in Itanagar, aiming to provideaccessible and high-quality healthcareto the people of the state.
Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar: TheRamakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, was established on December 28, 1977, whenLt. Governor Sri K.A.A. Raja laid its foundation stone. It was officially inaugurated on October 19, 1979, by Srimat Swami Vireshwaranandaji Maharaj, President of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Over the past four and a half decades, the hospital has expanded significantly, evolving into a leading healthcare institution dedicated to quality medical services and community well-being.
2. Objective
The Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, has for decades served as a beacon of compassionate care and healing for the people of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly the underserved and marginalized populace of the state. In response to the increasing demand for quality healthcare services, the hospital now faces a pressing need to renovate, restore, and modernize key areas of its infrastructure and expand its capacity to serve the community effectively.
vThe hospital currently operates six operation theatres, including one dedicated exclusively to ophthalmic procedures. However, these facilities are increasingly constrained by deteriorating infrastructure and outdated equipments, which compromise both the safety and efficiency of surgical care. Comprehensive renovation and modernization of the operation theatre complex will significantly enhance our ability to provide advanced, safe, and timely surgical interventions.
vOur radiology department currently functions with only two ultrasound machines, which are inadequate to meet the diagnostic needs of the growing patient population. This limitation frequently leads to delays, longer waiting periods, and increased workload on healthcare personnel. The procurement of additional, upgraded ultrasound machines equipped with modern imaging technology is essential to ensure prompt and accurate diagnostic services across various departments.
vBoth the buildings i.e. Outpatient and Inpatient Departments need immediate intervention in the form of Repair, Renovation and Restoration work. Through renovation and restoration will help create a more dignified, welcoming, and therapeutic environment for patients and their caregivers, thereby improving the overall quality of the healing experience.
vIn addition to infrastructure upgrades, the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital remains committed to advancing accessible nursing education, particularly for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The rising cost of professional training has made it increasingly difficult for many deserving students to pursue a career in nursing. With your generous support, we aspire to provide scholarships to approximately twenty students each year—representing 1/3 of our annual intake—enabling them to complete their training and contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector.
3. Conclusion
This initiative aligns with national healthcare priorities, emphasizing the strengthening of medical infrastructure and healthcare education in underserved regions like Arunachal Pradesh. With your support, we can undertake critical enhancements that will not only modernize our healthcare infrastructure but also expand educational opportunities for the next generation of caregivers. Your contribution will have a direct and lasting impact on improving healthcare services in the region and ultimately contribute to the overall development of the state.
We look forward to your support and the opportunity to collaborate for a healthier and more empowered Arunachal Pradesh.
We would humbly request benevolent Institutions, compassionate Individuals and devotees of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission to come forward and extend helping hands to Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar to the people of Arunachal Pradesh. May Sri Ramakrishna Bless you and yours.
Yours in the service of the Nation.
