Observance of international Day of Persons with Disabilities
3rd December is globally observed as International Day of Persons with Disabilities, as promoted by the United Nations since 1992.
To mark this occasion on 3rd December 2024, a team from Ramakrishna Mission Hospital visited the Donyi-Polo Mission School for Hearing & Visually Impaired situated at Chimpu, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, to participate in an event organized by the institution. The event was marked by song, dance, yoga & skit performances by the students.
Founded in 1990 by former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Sri Gegong Apang, this fully residential school is one of its kind in the whole of Arunachal Pradesh. With over 100 residential students having different degrees of hearing & visual impairments, the school offers its services free of cost to these beneficiary children. Apart from regular classes from standard 1 to 10, following regular academic curriculum, the students are also trained to become self-dependent and a productive member of society, in all possible ways. Apart from this the school also extends day care service for children with mental disabilities.
On this occasion the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, provided 106 fleece jackets to all the students (50 girls & 56 boys) as part of its winter relief work. All the students were also given cakes to add to their joy on this special day marked in their honor.
